Library Committee - Library & Information Science Education Network

The Library Advisory Committees namely, the University Library Committee and the Institutional Library Committee have been constituted which meet regularly, at least twice a year, to ensure that the library functions as an effective learning and information centre.

University Library Committee

Under the Section 5(a) (xiv) of the rules of the JSS AHER, the Library Committee is constituted.

  • To ensure that the library functions as an effective learning and information centre for the students and faculty.
  • Facilitate and guide the constituent colleges in the upgradation of their libraries including the purchase of books and journals.
  • To ensure optimal utilization of budget takes place in the constituent colleges.
  • To ensure that the resources of the libraries of the constituent colleges are effectively utilized by the students/faculty of the college, besides sharing the information of its resources amongst the other constituent colleges so that the library resource is utilized by other constituent colleges also.
  • To review periodically the performance of the libraries and the use of the various books and journals available with them by the students/faculty, which may help in the planning approval process.
  • To harmonize the functioning of libraries relating software installation, data generation, man-power needs, timings, resources, etc. amongst the constituent colleges.

Members of the University Library Committee

All the members of the Library Committee other than Ex-Officio members shall hold the office for a term of two years.

The University Library Committee consists of the following members :

  • The Vice Chancellor of the University as the Chairman
  • The Registrar of the University
  • The Finance Officer of the University
  • The Principals of all the constituent colleges
  • The Librarians of all the constituent colleges
  • One Professor from each of the constituent college
  • Two experts nominated by the Vice Chancellor
  • Senior Librarian as Member Secretary

Institutional Library Committee

Responsibilities

  • To create awareness among the faculty and students, the role of libraries in lifelong learning process
  • To ensure that the faculty and students are aware of the library information sources
  • To educate the faculty and students the information retrieval techniques
  • To review Library readership department-wise
  • To adopt measures to enhance readership
  • To assist the Librarian in the collection development
  • To harmonise the functioning of library relating to software installation, data generation, man-power needs, timings, resources, etc.,
  • To seek feedback on Library functions from readers
  • To work towards modernization and improvement of Library and documentation services
  • Student members should actively interact with other students and gather the feedback and information regarding library services and present it to the committee and voice the opinion of the students

Members of the Institutional Library Committee

  • The Principal of the college as the Chairman
  • The Librarian of the college as the Member Secretary
  • A faculty from each department
  • Two experts nominated by the Principal
